Tournament Bracket Generator
Seeded single or double elimination brackets, generated instantly. Byes are placed properly so the top seeds cannot meet before they should, and every matchup shows where its teams come from.
How tournament brackets are seeded
A bracket is seeded so the best teams meet last. Seed 1 plays the lowest seed, seed 2 plays the second-lowest, and the two are placed in opposite halves so they can only meet in the final. In an eight-team bracket that gives 1v8, 4v5, 2v7, 3v6 — the ordering this generator produces.
What happens when the team count is not a power of two
Brackets need 4, 8, 16, 32 or 64 slots. With any other number the extra slots become byes, and they go to the top seeds — that is the reward for finishing high in the regular season. Eleven teams in a sixteen-slot bracket means the top five seeds skip round one. This tool never creates a fake “bye game”; the team simply appears in the next round.
Single or double elimination?
Single elimination is fast and fits a weekend: n − 1 games for n teams. Double elimination is fairer — one bad period does not end your tournament — but costs roughly twice as many games and needs a losers bracket that most paper brackets get wrong. If you have the ice time, double elimination is the better experience for the teams travelling to your event.
Then what?
Once the bracket exists, someone has to run it: enter scores, advance winners, and keep parents informed. TrakScore does that part — winners advance themselves the moment a score is final. Work out the ice time and cost next, or add pool play before the bracket.
