Ringette was invented in North Bay, Ontario in 1963, and Ringette Ontario still administers the largest ringette membership in the country. Ontario draws are consequently the deepest in the sport — enough teams at a given age and tier to require real pool play into a playoff rather than the round-robin-and-final format that suffices in smaller provinces.
Ontario is the largest youth-sport market in the country and the most organisationally fragmented: Southern, Eastern and Northwestern Ontario are administered separately in several sports, and Thunder Bay is closer to Winnipeg than to Toronto.

Ringette shares hockey's ice and hockey's tournament shape — pool play into a playoff — but it is a smaller sport, which changes the maths. A ringette weekend often has fewer teams per division and more divisions running at once, so an organiser is juggling several small brackets in parallel rather than one big one.
